Inspired by sound designers Erik Aadahl (Transformers, Godzilla) and Ren Klyce (Oblivion, Fight Club), John Paul Reyes (better known as Taihei) started exploring the world of audio engineering through the old family computer, recording and manipulating various sounds on Acid Studio. It was around 2010, when he came across FruityLoops 8 (now known as FL Studio), and where his friend introduced him to Skrillex’s Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites, where Reyes’ interest in music was galvanized.
In 2019, under the name Taihei, Armada Music (label founded by DJ/Producer Armin van Buuren) held an original trance song contest, where he won first place for his unreleased song Inori.
Since then, his works have garnered support and traction by various festivals, DJs, and radio stations such as Ultra Music Festival in Miami, SLAM! FM in the Netherlands, Maurice West (now known as Mau P), and Wave City (a division of YouTube curator Trap City).
Considered reflective and enigmatic, his works intersect between the fast-paced digital world, the inner-child and adult, and the current world issues that impact today and tomorrow.
Setting his sights to 2025, the Chicago native will be making a big step in telling his story through his upcoming project; taking audiences on a journey - where two young outcasts begin to question the world around them, and soon learning the risks of being an individual under a society that is ardent on absolute order and progress.
